Peppermint is fast growing, highly aromatic and has been used for generations and generations as a culinary and medicinal herb. It can also be used as a ground cover to cover large areas under trees and shrubs to suppress weeds. It is known to protect soil and providing food and shelter for beneficial insects. It can be easily trimmed.
Peppermint can be used in salads, chocolates, teas (fresh or dried leaves), cocktails and sauces. Peppermint is similar in flavour to spearmint, but it contains menthol, which gives it a stronger flavor and adds a cooling sensation. Peppermint is better suited to stand up to strong flavours and therefore ideal for chocolate desserts and boldly flavoured dishes.
Several mint varieties can help with anything from stomach aches to sinus congestion. Mint is anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal.
